Snoring disorders have become very common and affects a large number of Americans today. A large amount of sufferers may not even be aware that they suffer from a snoring disorder, especially people living on their own. A good nights sleep is very important as it is the way things are designed to relax your body and build up the energy for the following day. Disruptions to this, whether is is a snoring disorder or outright SA, can cause many indirect problems such as marital strain, difficulty to maintain concentration at work as well as long term health problems. There are some simple ways of treating many snoring disorders, well worth trying before resorting to surgery and other more severe methods.
Depending on its severity, a snoring disorder can be anything from just an irritation to a right danger. Snoring is basically vibrations in your air flow system that are caused by blockages or restrictions. These blockages can be due to obesity, smoking, having allergies etc but they can also be naturally present. Snoring, especially in severe cases, can be more than just an irritation - it can be a symptom of SA which is a more severe disease.
Many cases of snoring can be cured by simple changes to the lifestyle, loosing weight, giving up smoking, changing sleeping position etc - but not all. For the severe cases there are snoring aids and ultimately surgery.
The most obvious problem with a snoring disorder is the effect it has on partners. People with a snoring disorder living alone may not even be aware of the problem while in a partnership or marriage, it may be a real problem. Even if the sufferer is not always aware of the problem, he is still often very much affected with things like loss of concentration, chronic fatigue etc.
The CPAP machine, sometimes also refered to as the CEPAP, is short for Continous Pump Airway Pressure. The idea behind CPAP is to provide an available pressure of incoming air so that when the patient inhales (in sleep), the amount of air is assisted by this pressure. Look at it a bit like "power breathing" (compare power steering of a car). It is still the patient that breathes, but with much less effort and the airstream is kept large enough to avoid the blockages that are the main cause of OSA - obstructive sleep apnea. This also helps when there is a snoring problem as snoring and sleep apnia is often connected.
CPAP devices have shown a very good success rate in treatment of sleep apena (apnia) and snoring, even in difficult cases.
Sleep apnia often depends on a blocking of the upper airways (obstructive sleep apena). Snoring (snoering, snoaring) is often related and both can be treated using Cepap (sometimes also called CPAP) machines for breathing assistance when sleeping. C-Pap, Bipap and other snoring aids can also be of assistance with other sleeping disorders.
