Sleep apnia (apena) - snoring (snoreing) - cepap treatment

Sleep apnia is a dangerous condition and it will require professional and immediate care. The most common variety of SA is called OSA - obstructive sleep apnea (apena). The condition is often related to snoreing (snoaring).

Apnia (apena)

If left undiagnosed and untreated, obstructive sleep apnia (OSA) can lead to stroke, high blood pressure, other heart disease and conditions, impotence, heart attacts just to mention a few of the complications of sleep apnea.

Due to the repeated awakenings during the night, the natural sleep pattern is disrupted and because of the disturbed sleeping (snoreing) rhythm, the body is never allowed the full relaxation it needs for full restoration of the powers due to the snoaring and other sleep disturbances (snoreing). The result is that patients with sleep apena often suffer from chronic fatigue, anxiety, higher than normal blood pressure and they are also more at risk for developing heart conditions such as stroke.

Other sleeping disorders - insomnia, snoring

It is quite common today with sleeping disorders such as insomnia, snoring or sleep apnia. With the high occurence today of these disorders, the disrupted sleep combined with modern society pressure can create a very persistent fatigue that can be an outright problem or even danger.

In curing OSA (apena), there are several possible methods available to try. Apnea can be defined as a condition where the patient during sleep, frequently stops breathing for a short while, sometimes as long as up to one minute, due to obstructions of the free air flow. The airway can be eithe totally blocked, or partially blocked. The most common obstruction is a result of the air way shutting off the air flow by simply collapsing. There are less severe versions of this, which accounts for the partial obstructions where breathing is still possible, but because of the obstruction, the breathing will become rapid and shallow, providing too little oxygen. Both the partial and the total blockage will be naturally adjusted back to normal when the body regains conciousness and restores the lung functions and the free flow of air. The problem of sleep remains though. Because of the frequent stopping and restarting, there will be sleep problems and possibly other more problematic conditions. The patient doesn't always realize the size of the problem as he will not regain full and total awakeness between the passes of breathing stop and restart. The body will only awake up to a point so it can restore normal breathing so the patient may not even be aware of the fact that there has been a pause in breathing.

Different types of sleep apnia

The obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) as mentioned above, is one of the three types of apena:

  1. Obstructive SA (apnea)
  2. Central SA
  3. Mixed SA

OSA is the most common of the apnias, followed by the central variety and the mixed. OSA is a purely physical problem where the upper airways are blocked by excess tissue, Central SA is the apnea where there is a signal disturbance between the brain and the breathing apparatus and finally the mixed SA which is a combination of the two other types.

Sleep apnea aids and treatment

Since sleep apena is a rather serious disease, there are not so many treatments, cures and devices available as there are snoring devices. However, there are some. The most common and the most important device is the CPAP (cepap) machine - where CPAP means Continous Positive Air Pressure - a method that pumps a steady flow of air into the patients lungs in order to keep the blockage of the airway gone. The cepap (CPAP) machine is a very successful way of treating sleep apnia.

Another method of sleep apnea treatment that has become popular lately is the intraoral dental appliance. It is more convenient to use than a CPAP (cepap) machine and it is a device that adjusts the tounge position inside the mouth so the airway is kept open. Snoreing (snoaring) treatment.

Sleep apnia often depends on a blocking of the upper airways (obstructive sleep apena). Snoring (snoering, snoaring) is often related and both can be treated using Cepap (sometimes also called CPAP) machines for breathing assistance when sleeping. C-Pap, Bipap and other snoring aids can also be of assistance with other sleeping disorders.
